The bean as we know it today originated in America, and was still unknown in the Middle Ages. In its place is the “mongette” bean, native to Africa and present in Europe for over 2000 years.

The cowpea is an annual climber that requires support to flourish. Its “bean” fruits resemble long spaghetti. This variety is highly resistant to heat and fairly dry soils. Harvest when the bean is about 30 cm long.
Uses : Cowpeas are eaten like green beans.
Sowing : Sow directly in warm soil after the last frosts. Sow in rows 70 cm apart or in bunches of 6 seeds. Cultivate plants after emergence.
