In the Middle Ages, plants were used to dye wool. In the chamomile family, there’s a very yellow one, full of dyes, which gives a beautiful golden color to fabrics.

Dyer’s chamomile is a hardy perennial. Very easy to grow, it requires very little watering and likes poor soil. Its yellow flowers bloom throughout the summer.

Uses : Harvest flowers in early bloom to dye fabrics yellow or make watercolors and natural inks.
Sowing : Sow in pots from May to July and replant in the garden in autumn. Chamomile can resow itself.
