In the Middle Ages, leeks were already well known and widely cultivated. Mentioned in the Capitulary of Villis, its cultivation was recommended by Charlemagne as early as the 9th century.

The leek is a biennial plant that is usually grown in the first year for its bulb. However, it can be left to flower in the second year, producing magnificent, decorative purple flowers.
Uses : Leeks are, of course, an edible plant that can be cooked in a variety of ways. In the vegetable garden, in association with carrots, it keeps carrot flies away.
Sowing : Sow in pots or in rows starting in March. Transplant in July when roots reach pencil size, or thin out on site. Harvest from October and throughout the winter.
