description du produit

Launched over 25 years ago, the medieval construction site at Guédelon is unique: it revives the building methods and techniques of 800 years ago, using raw materials sourced from the site itself, deep in a forest in the Yonne department.

Maryline Martin, co-founder of Guédelon, and Delphine Bourselot, site director, were keen to give a voice to the historians, archaeologists, researchers and ‘workers’ of Guédelon so that they could share their experiences and explain how, using stone quarried from the ground, the trees of the forest or the ore extracted from the rock, they build, shape the walls, erect the roof structures, make the doors, door frames, ropes and tools, fire the tiles, produce the lime…

Jean-Benoît Héron illustrates the Château de Guédelon from its origins to the present day.
His illustrations, accompanied by photographs by François Folcher, plunge us into the heart of the medieval era and this unparalleled human adventure, at the crossroads of technology, art and history.
